American (English) remake of the French series HPI (2021)
Scenario
Follows Morgan, a single mother of three, and how her extraordinary mind enables her to help solve a crime by rearranging evidence during her shift as a cleaner for the police. Despite her very high IQ, excellent memory, and extensive knowledge of the arcane, Morgan makes a number of basic legal errors that anyone who has ever watched a legal TV show knows not to make.
Remake of HPI (2021)
In episode one, for example, she obtains a document from a locked safe in the suspect/victim’s law office that would never be admissible in court – illegally obtained evidence. Nor could it be used to obtain other evidence – a violation of the legal doctrine of the “fruit of the poisonous tree.” In episode 2, she has to be reminded to wear gloves before handling evidence at the crime scene, and in #3, she removes all documented evidence from the police station, completely breaking the chain of evidence and making anything she removed inadmissible in court.
Like most shows, the beginning is a bit shaky
First, it’s not a clone of “Bones” or other police shows that focus on people with marketable skills in police work. The girl is obviously good, even if it can’t continue like the first episode.
Cops aren’t going to take advantage of someone who is that nervous
Unlike portrayals of the lab techs and the like in other shows, where they are portrayed as if they just “got off their meds.” Second, the actor who plays detective Karadec (Daniel Sunjata) is impressive, he was very good in “Manifest.” As shows like this get smoother and the characters become more fleshed out, they tend to get better and the flow starts to work. As for the gifted Morgan, it’s hard to believe someone with her skills didn’t get snapped up by a tech company or a financial firm, but I suppose there are people out there who, despite their talent, couldn’t make it work in the regular world.
